Easy and hard instances of arc ranking in directed graphs

چکیده
In this paper we deal with the arc ranking problem of directed graphs. We give some classes of graphs for which the arc ranking problem is polynomially solvable. We prove that deciding whether χr(G) ≤ 6, where G is an acyclic orientation of a 3-partite graph is an NP-complete problem. In this way we answer an open question stated by Kratochvil and Tuza in 1999.

The topological ordering of covering nodes
The topological ordering algorithm sorts nodes of a directed graph such that the order of the tail of each arc is lower than the order of its head. In this paper, we introduce the notion of covering between nodes of a directed graph. Then, we apply the topological orderingalgorithm on graphs containing the covering nodes. We show that there exists a cut set withforward arcs in these...
متن کاملWhen Acyclicity Is Not Enough: Limitations of the Causal Graph
Causal graphs are widely used in planning to capture the internal structure of planning instances. In the past, causal graphs have been exploited to generate hierarchical plans, to compute heuristics, and to identify classes of planning instances that are easy to solve. It is generally believed that planning is easier when the causal graph is acyclic. In this paper we show that this is not true...
متن کاملFeedback arc set problem and NP-hardness of minimum recurrent configuration problem of Chip-firing game on directed graphs
In this paper we present further studies of recurrent configurations of Chip-firing games on Eulerian directed graphs (simple digraphs), a class on the way from undirected graphs to general directed graphs. A computational problem that arises naturally from this model is to find the minimum number of chips of a recurrent configuration, which we call the minimum recurrent configuration (MINREC) ...
متن کاملOnline Ranking for Tournament Graphs
We study the problem of producing a global ranking of items given pairwise ranking information, when the items to be ranked arrive in an online fashion. We study both the maximization and the minimization versions of the problem on tournaments (max acyclic subgraph, feedback arc set). We also study the case when the items arrive in random order.
متن کاملParameterized algorithms for feedback set problems and their duals in tournaments
The parameterized feedback vertex (arc) set problem is to find whether there are k vertices (arcs) in a given graph whose removal makes the graph acyclic. The parameterized complexity of this problem in general directed graphs is a long standing open problem. We investigate the problems on tournaments, a well studied class of directed graphs. We consider both weighted and unweighted versions. W...
